  I was introduced to CrossFit 4 years ago by my brother and joined my first box 3 years ago. I have always been pretty active playing football/lacrosse in high school and then continuing on to play college lacrosse. I knew my way around a gym and always thought I was in great shape until I stepped foot into the box. What a humbling experience! Since beginning CrossFit my life has been turned upside-down and backwards. The terms health, fitness, and happiness have completely been redefined, and my life has totally changed for the better. The community of CrossFit is unmatched and for me the box is a second home. The members become your closest friends and family and you want nothing more than for everyone to succeed. For me CrossFit is all about accomplishing what you thought never to be possible. Everyone in the box has one common goal and that is to better themselves not only in the gym but in everyday life as well. My favorite memory from CrossFit so far was last year when I was judging at a competition. One of the workouts had 30 pull-ups in it and the athlete I was judging approached me and said he has never done a pull-up without assistance before. I looked him right in the eyes and said that’s about to change. He flew through the first part of the workout and then it was time for the pull-ups. He jumped up and failed. Looking very aggravated I decided to stop being a judge and start being a friend/coach. By the time the workout was done he had successfully completed 23 pull-ups! The look of joy on his face after the workout was something I will never forget. It is truly amazing watching someone accomplish something that they never thought they could do.

November 8, 2011…the first time I warily walked into a CrossFit box. I want to start my bio off by explaining I didn’t want to go, I never lifted weights before ( because I didn’t want to bulk up), and group exercise was not for me. Cut to 3 plus years later, I can honestly say CrossFit has changed my life. After starting, I wanted more, so I went for my Level I certification in January of 2013 and started coaching at a local box. I soon realized That my passion for fitness was only trumped by my love for coaching and inspiring people to become the best they can be. In 2013 I got my AFFA certification for personal training and started to transition my 9-5 sales job more towards training. After a stint as a head coach at a CrossFit box, I am now looking for my next journey and happy to find my training and coaching home at CrossFit Peekskill

  My introduction to CrossFit came shortly after participating in my first Tough Mudder race event. I had spent years training for marathons and triathlons, until I stumbled across these obstacle type races. Since I wanted to drastically improve my performance in these types of races, I signed up for CrossFit in the hopes of improving my pull-ups and burpees. After my FIRST day at the box, I was hooked. Was I any good? No! Was I determined to improve? Yes! After immersing myself into training for 6 months, I knew that I wanted to be able to help others as well. This made me decide to get my CrossFit Level 1 so I could coach others. I have been coaching for some time now, and love being able to focus on improving myself as an athlete, improving my skills as a coach, and most important improving my athletes. What does CrossFit mean to me? Put it this way…in a plank recently I had someone in my ear telling me to put my thoughts in a happy place to distract me from the pain. I responded that I am in my happy place – at my CrossFit box. I think about CrossFit as close to 24/7 as anything else. Not only about how much more I want to grow with the sport, but more about how much I want my athletes to grow and improve. It is not just about the PR’s that my athletes set or the accomplishments they make on a regular basis, but more about the excitement and willingness I see in my athletes every day.

My first CrossFit workout was while on vacation in Florida, following a 3 mile “warm-up” run on the beach. Spending many years in a gym, off and on, mostly just lifting weights – I did not set high expectations. My workouts used to consist of “Monday = legs day, Tuesday = shoulders, etc.” and I was not convinced that I would see different results from CrossFit. I was proven wrong almost immediately. The regular achievements and improvements proved to me that the constantly varied, high intensity nature of CrossFit WOD’s is nothing like the workouts of my past. Learning a lot of CrossFit movements from the ground up has made me appreciate the coaching that comes with CrossFit. I have been lucky to have worked with some amazing, attentive coaches. This made me realize that I wanted to be able to do the same for others. Getting the CrossFit Level 1 to coach has allowed this opportunity, and I look forward to spreading the love of the sport and community to CrossFit Peekskill. I believe in the “Work Hard, Play Hard” motto since CrossFit is meant to be not just a great way to get in shape, but also should be fun!

I have been doing CrossFit for 3 years now. WHen i walked in for the first time i only planned on doing it for a month to get help with movements/ideas of stuff to do in the gym on my own. Within my first week i realized that there was no way i was going to leave. There is so much support and motivation from those around you that you can’t get anywhere else – it truly becomes like a family. Aside from that, the mental strength you get from CrossFit is unparalleled. It has given me more confidence in all areas of my life, something i never would’ve expected from a workout program. Getting to share my passion for it with others and watch them succeed is exciting and motivating, and i’m so grateful to be doing what i love.

I have been an avid athlete my whole life, participating in almost every team sport imaginable. I enjoyed the camaraderie, strong work ethic and selflessness of the individual within a team effort. I began CrossFit in 2012 and it was the parallel to that sense of the community of hard work that hooked me. It is not surprising to see why so many people are passionate about CrossFit. The health benefits, physical development, and mental fortitude are tremendous. Our members carry this passion and sense of self-worth developed at the box over to the other aspects of their lives, work, and families. As an athlete, my favorite part of CrossFit is continually being able to challenge myself. And I carry that passion over to my coaching, there is nothing more exhilarating than watching someone archive a challenge they never dreamed possible and to know that I was able to guide them through the necessary physical and mental conditioning to accomplish that.
